Every night, her baby monitor woke her up at exactly 3:17 AM. Through the static, she heard her daughter laughing.

At first she thought it was sweet. Babies laugh in their sleep all the time. She even told her friends about it.

Then one night, the laughing stopped.

Through the monitor, a man’s voice whispered: “Good girl.”

She ran to the nursery. The door was closed, just like she left it. The window was locked. The room was empty. Her daughter was fast asleep in her crib.

She stood there in the dark, holding her breath.

Then the monitor crackled one more time. The same voice whispered:
