The House for Sale
Number 14 was a lovely house. Fresh paint. A big garden. A “for sale” sign by the gate.
The realtor selling it was proud of the place. The deal was almost done. In one week, the new owner would get the keys.
Then, on a rainy Tuesday, she was found dead inside the empty house.
That same evening, the police questioned her husband. He seemed calm. Almost too calm. He said:
“I don’t know who she was selling it to. But she was at that house more than usual. You should question the buyer. She saw him way too much for my liking.”
The police arrested him on the spot.
Why?
The husband gave himself away.
Read his words again. First he said: "I don't know who she was selling it to." But right after that, he talked about the buyer. He called the buyer "him". He even said his wife saw the buyer way too much for his liking.
You cannot be jealous of a man you know nothing about. The husband knew exactly who the buyer was. His first sentence was a lie. And his jealousy was the motive.
