The Man Who Walked His Dog
The man in apartment 7B was found dead on a Sunday morning.
His door was locked. His windows were closed. There were no signs of forced entry. Whoever killed him, he had let them in himself.
The police knocked on the door of apartment 7A. The neighbor opened it. He lived alone. Everyone in the building knew that.
Before the police could ask a single question, he raised his hands and said:
“I know I look guilty. But it wasn’t me. I was out walking my dog.”
The police arrested him instantly.
Why?
There was no dog.
The neighbor lived alone. Really alone. No family. No roommate. And no pets. Everyone in the building knew it.
So who was this dog he claimed to be walking? It did not exist. His alibi was invented. And a man who invents an alibi usually needs one.
